FAQ
How do I know if I’m applying the right pressure to my Aram??
Espresso is traditionally brewed with 9 bar pressure. One of the strengths of the Aram coffee maker is that you are no longer held hostage by this. If you want more pressure, just make the water flow more difficult by reducing the thickness of the ground bean, or by adding more powder. If your intention is to extract an espresso, the lever’s descent needs to be “heavier” than its ascent.
If you feel no resistance in the lever, it is necessary to make the water passage more difficult, either by putting more coffee in the filter, or by reducing the granulometry of the coffee being used. Otherwise the coffee will come out with a consistency closer to that of a filtered coffee.
If you feel so much resistance in the lever that you have to push too hard, STOP! Wait for some coffee to flow, and only then slowly bring the lever to the end. This happens because the resistance to the passage of water is too great and if you force it too much, the filter may deform due to the excess pressure. Remember, always use fresh beans, within 30 days of roasting. This makes all the difference.
Which grind should be used?
The grinding you will use depends on the expected result of the beverage. If you want a coffee that is closer to a French press coffee, use a coarse grind, as a press asks for. If your intention is to have an espresso, the grind must be specific for espresso extraction very fine.
Is there a correct or maximum amount of water for the coffeemaker?
The coffee maker comes equipped with a filter for the extraction of a long double espresso, traditionally with 60ml. You must always fill the coffee maker up to the piece with the holes. If you want a 60ml cup, you must move the crank all the way up and down. If you want a 40 ml cup, you must crank it up about 29 turns. Go to the Manual tab and look in the preparation guide.

How do I get the amount for one cup of coffee? And for two?
The coffee maker comes equipped with a filter for the extraction of a double cup of coffee, traditionally with 60ml. In the future we intend to create a flow divider, so that you can divide the coffee into two cups (or glasses) and thus have two single espressos as a result. But until this happens, to extract a single espresso, it would be necessary to buy a simple filter and put only about 40 or 50 ml of water in it. But we do not recommend doing this. The coffee is much tastier when brewed with a double filter.
What is the purpose of the part that fits under the filter holder (has a spout)?
This piece we call The Funnel. We put it there as a gift for the people who trusted our project and helped us with the collective funding. They are not included in the machines bought after the funding through Catarse.me. Their purpose is to prevent eventual coffee spills from dirtying the metal base and/or the support surface (your white towel, for example? lol). It interferes very little in the result of the drink, and can only diminish a little the creaminess of your espresso.
Where can I buy replacement parts, such as seals, filters, etc?
All parts were made taking into account standard measurements, so that it would be easy for us to find replacement parts. We sell all the parts you need. The filter, which is standard in the market, has a diameter of 53mm. The one we use, for example, is from the brand La Spaziale.
How to wash the machine?
The ideal is to just wipe all the stainless steel parts that are visible with a clean cloth. The filter holder and the filter can be washed with running water and detergent, no problem. Now the important thing is for all the parts that have wood:
COFFEE MAKER
Do not soak your coffee maker;
Do not wash it in the washing machine;
Don’t put it in the microwave (who knows, right? lol).
Is the tamper made of noble wood?
Yes, and that’s why you shouldn’t wash it in the washing machine, or leave it too wet after being washed.
Do I need to use force to close the coffee maker’s flow?
NO. The coffee maker is not a faucet, you will not be turning off the flow. You have already closed the piston as soon as you give the first quarter turn of the lever. So when you get to the end, you do not want to squeeze the lever because that will not stop the water flow. To make the water flow stop, simply return the lever (counterclockwise) until you feel a pop and then turn ¼ turn clockwise again.
Does the benchtop version come with everything that the portable version comes with?
Yes, everything.
What is the filter that comes with the aram coffee maker?
Precision Insert Baskets – Double (18 grams) Spaziale.
Are there other 53mm precision filter sizes? Or just these two 18g and 21g?
There is the Single (10g), this 18g (double) and the 21g (triple). IMS makes 53mm competition baskets. They are impressive! On the internet you can find several coffee equipment sites that have 53mm baskets for sale.
How is the machine cleaned?Is it necessary to clean it after each use?
When using the machine, always discard the water that remained inside it and the coffee cake (remembering that coffee grounds are an excellent fertilizer for plants). To keep it clean, rinse the filter and filter holder with water and wipe the flange with a damp cloth to remove the coffee grounds. It is not necessary to do this every time the coffee is brewed, but every time it is used.
Even though the wood is sealed, it is important to avoid contact with water, so do not wash it under running water or soak it, never put it in the washing machine. If necessary, you can wipe the entire outside of the machine with a slightly damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
The warm water that is run through is enough to keep the inside of the machine clean. If the machine will not be used for a longer period of time, just run hot water inside it a few times to clean it.
